Bio - Mick Corbo

Mick Corbo

I am a violinist who plays guitar and dabbles with other instruments as well.

Style

I enjoy playing a variety of music. There have been times I've wondered why anybody is sucked in by all the pop trash when the great composers seem so much more sophisticated and intelligent, but then there have been times when I've listened to something popular that I like and wondered why I bother with the stuffiness of the classical world.

Although I wouldn't describe myself as a hippy, I see The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and The Woodstock Music and Art Fair as providing a glimpse into what I believe is a collective dream of a paradise we may see some time in the future if we learn to more wisely wield our power over nature and each other.

Influences

When asked to name influences at this point in my life, I'd have to give the names of people I can believe in for more than just the music itself such as Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Bob Marley. It takes almost super-human strength for a musician to survive the pressures corrupting them and have any principles that aren't just P.R. stunts from their agents or whoever. Lennon may have made mistakes, particularly in the way Yoko and he treated his first wife Cynthia, but he gave his adult life to bettering himself spiritually and helping people find a better way, which is definitely necessary.

Don't be sucked in by the act people put on. As soon as you step out of your front gate you are amongst all the struggling victims of society and if you want any friends around you, they have to be taken from this pool, so I don't know how it's possible to be a typical plastic celebrity walking past all this misery in front of your eyes, parading in front of it on stages and just faking these smiles pretending everything is perfect. You'd need a lobotomy. Bob Marley refused to smile because he refused to pretend that life was perfect. All the other Jamaicans looking at him knew it wasn't and what you see behind the camera is never so pretty. If you don't realise that such a position gives you a responsibility to help those who believe in you and follow you, then you're doomed. Sadly, most are crazed by a selfish aggression and should pray they don't rise out of anonymity.
